RE: Need Help with heating element removal on Dometic Refrig

I had a 120v element go bad about 5 years ago. The dealer was unable to get the failed element out. There was room to leave it and just insert the new element. You might check that out if you have problems getting the old element out.

RE: Tow Vehicle Nightmare- First Long Distance Trip

Ford now offers an extended warranty (7 years/200,000 miles) for purchase that cover the core of the power train. It might be worth your while. Checkout the Ford diesel sites (or Ford Company site) for more info. I bought mine over the phone from a Ford dealer in Indiana. About $1500.

RE: Titanium fifth fuel savings?

Not real precise but here's my experience. I traded a 28' Hitchhiker (8000 GVWR) for a 28E33 Titanium (10,000 GVWR). I got about the same MPG after the trade and its a 20% bigger trailer.

RE: Periodic Maintenance on Front Landing Legs

Just talked to Atwood. It turns out the instructions are wrong. You can't lube the composite gear box, just the gears on the top of the landing leg.
Thanks for you help.

RE: Periodic Maintenance on Front Landing Legs

The units are pretty much the same--I think the bigger ones probably just have a little beefier components. Mine appears to be either the heavy duty or super duty model because I have two independent electric drives. Based on the pull pin for the feet, it's the super duty model. I have the plastic/composite gear box. Mine's about 6 years old.

Periodic Maintenance on Front Landing Legs

I have been trying to perform the annual service on my Atwood front landing legs. They are electric. I can figure everything out except how to "lubricate the gears in the gear box." I don't see anyway to easily apply the grease. The manual says that the gear box is not repairable and not to open it so there must be an easy way to get the grease in to the gears. Can anybody give me a tip or two for getting into the gear box? Also, it calls for extreme pressure grease. Is a good wheel bearing grease OK or should I get something else?

RE: Leveling Boards

I carry 4 1"x6"x4' deck boards and 2 2"x10"x4' boards. I put two rope handles on the side of each board--makes them very easy to move. It takes 2 1" boards side by side to give me the 10" width I need. It's important to stagger the lengths a little bit--then you can pyramid them to get every 1" increment up to 6" high. If you don't stagger the lengths and stack shorter on longer, and then roll off the opposite end you rolled on, you can flip the upper boards up into the bottom of your trailer--bad news! I have found a couple of camp sites over the years that needed 6" to level. Like K3WE said "bevel the ends." Not only is it cool, but it makes it much easier to get on and off the stack.

RE: Draining Fresh water tank....HELP!!!

I think that any extension of the drain will compromise the insulation/freeze resistance that the trailer may have. Be very careful camping in cold weather.
